To Ahkyahnan:

Happy Birthday to you

In 2002

You last saw your Thirties

Now you're wiser, it's true!

But I'd rather be young

With my future far flung

Than to wisely express

All the bad stuff age brung!

Happy Four Dozen Solar Cycles, Ahkyahnan!!!

I've seen aridas try and pronounce it. It's hilarious!

Happy Birthday!

Thanks guys,

Aridas: That's a great poem! I need to steal that and use myself the first chance I get. :)

Bill: Please post a video of aridas trying to say "Ahkyahnan" on YouTube if you have it.

While the true pronunciation of Ahkyahnan is impossible for non-modified humans, here is the closest approximation possible as a guide:

AHK as in the Terran metropolitan area of AUCKland.

YAH as in the stereotypical Swedish version of Yeah. (i.e., "Yah, ve haf snow today").

NAN sort of as in NUN, only pulling away from/truncating the vowel slightly in a British sort of way.

(Sorry for all the nationality references.)

Additionally though, the K sorta runs into the Y so it's more like "AH-kyAH-nun".

To paraphrase The Bangles, "Talk like an Egyptian" when saying it. It helps. Think "Akhenaten", etc.

Thanks again for the Birthday wishes!!

Mark

Happy Birthday.

Is there an origin story to go with that name (i.e. rocketed from Krypton as an infant, prozac addiction, etc.)?

:)

Happy B'day !

as for Aridas trying to say it....can I get a .WAV file on that?

I do not know the origin of the name ,but he did use it for one of his ships.
Chosin Class Attack Carrier NCC-2634 USS Ahkyahnan (the last one on the list)

Sorry, we were in the Star Fleet Printing Office drafting room and the hustle and bustle of all of the workers made it impossible to capture. BUSY place.

Mind you, my pronunciation was "yeah, yeah, THAT guy". :) (I promise we were only saying really nice things.)

Damn. That sounds more like Kirok's brother the medicine dude. When I said it I was going all Egyptian. Had to mummify my tongue afterwards.

Well it's been a great birthday, and I got my annual gift...the new Hallmark starship ornament. This year it's the Romulan bird of prey. Fits nice with last years Klingon battlecruiser.

Nothing lights up the Holidays like a plasma torpedo and disruptors.

The name was just made up for the ship Max mentioned. I only started using it myself when everything else I tried had already been used.

Well, the emphasis is still on the first AH and you say it quick, so the difference is pretty minor.
