Sad to report this, mostly because, like with Paolo Soleri, I never got to meet him, despite my best intentions. When Thomas got too old and Fresco got too old and I got kind of distracted, it didn't happen. This was one that The God Thing and I disagreed about, but Drexler was absolutely spot on right about. Though his ideas were a bit far out, I think he understood at heart where we were headed and was just explaining it in terms he understood. Much as I suspect was true with Franz Joseph.

Sad to hear that. I recall you posting about him and his work previously.

What was the disagreement about and what did Drexler get right?

Drexler employed many Fresco-isms in his portrayal of 22nd century San Fran for ENT, a desecration in TGT's eyes of the TMP melange of Soleri and many other currently arcane masters of the futurist architecture set. I pointed out to TGT, (whom I usually played student to in the shadow of his truly encyclopedic breadth and depth of... pretty much everything we ever discussed) that Drexler was 1) showing 22nd C SF, and that 2) he restricted himself to showing (for the most part) that Coit-ish part of the penninsula that Roddenberry had said was a "museum city". I thought criticizing Drexler's portrayal was unfair, and also thought SF could use MORE Fresco, not less. Fresco channeled Roddenberry better than any pure visionary I ever read or whose work I saw. He was like Roddenberry crossed with Frank Lloyd Wright minus even the slightest bit of business sense. But Drexler liked him and helped him visualize some of his work in CGI, and those videos (which were on the Venus Project website at one time) are the definitive tour of TOS-era Earth for this fan.

Just watched the trailer. Drexler did all that CGI? Impressive.

I've already seen him presenting some green buildings concepts four or five years ago on Youtube when I was searching for retro future architectural design elements. He had a very positivist and idealized vision of the future.
