"Errand of Mercy": Starfleet interdiction force to intercept and engage the Klingon Fleet at or near the Organian star system.

This is the heavy frigate Reliant.

"Errand of Mercy" : Starfleet Interdiction Force. Four corsairs fly with the bigger ships - U.S.S. Cronin, Fulton, Lomonosov, and Rizal. These are the smallest class one ships in Starfleet's armada. Though Starfleet would never call itself an "armada".

"Errand of Mercy", continued. Frigates Shenzhou and Liverpool. Basically, the Eugene's class equipped with phaser cannons and enhanced targeting sensors, an expanded secondary hull dedicated to engineering, improved flight deck operations, and upgraded nacelles. Maybe the older ships of the Eugene's class, refit?

And yes, the similarity is entirely intentional.

"Errand of Mercy". This is one of the cruisers supporting the two Starfleet flagships - the light cruiser Omaha.

In "Errand of Mercy" we hear about Starfleet Unit XY-75847. For purposes of my envisioning the unseen ships from this episode, I will have that unit led by flagship heavy cruiser U.S.S. Constitution, and supported by the light cruiser Omaha. Corvettes Juliet and Jacqueline and corsairs Lomonosov and Rizal round out the cruiser group. The frigate group is led by the heavy frigate Reliant and includes frigates Eugene and Shenzhou, and light frigates Wrel Va and Elmina. The unit is rounded out by armed transports Beatrice and Benedick.

When Enterprise joins the fleet it leads Unit XD-A1727 and is supported by cruiser Aegis, portrayed here. Also in the cruiser group are corvette Joy and corsairs Cronin and Fulton. Heavy frigate Avenger leads the frigate group and is supported by frigates Buena Vista and Liverpool and light frigates Glendale and Hurutam. Also in the unit is the armed transport Dante.

These are the ships facing the Klingon force assembled above and aiming to secure Organia.

From "Errand of Mercy", this is how Starfleet gets most of its troops to Organia. Three medium armed transports - Dante, Beatrice, and Benedick.

The "Errand of Mercy" Arcturan contingent. Star Trek: The Motion Picture taught us that Arcturan clones constituted a large segment of the Starfleet troops. In the (almost) Battle of Organia, they contribute sixty highly trained and specialized Surface Action Specialists, plus two "fleet killer" breakers. Arcturan breakers are able to quickly shift from giant weapon to incredibly fast to remarkably well-shielded, but catch them in the wrong mode and they will crush like an egg. In the right mode, they are the most dangerous ships in Starfleet. The very, very dangerous trick is to catch them in transition. One breaker is assigned to each unit.

It goes without saying that the Arcturan is the one warrior that gives a Klingon nightmares.

Oh yeah... and this ship did eventually manage to find its way - minus a nacelle - into the TAS "Time Trap".
